Laboratory Hours and Emergency Work
1. There
should be definite laboratory working hours.
2. In
peripheral laboratory it is often more difficult to maintain working hours.
3. Out
side of normal working hours each laboratory should organize a system for
testing urgent specimen ,(CSF).
4. Only
those investigation that are essential for the immediate care and
assessment of a patient should be
requested urgently.

Written details of the emergency service
[on called service ]should be circulated to all those concerned.
·Each sample should be
carefully labeled.
·The clinical and
preclinical workers should have vaccinated.
·Auto calve various
glassware.
·Specimen collection:
It includes the knowledge for-
-Volume required
-Container and its
preparation.
-Use of only
anticoagulant or stabilizer .
-Collection procedure
for adult and child with health and safety notes.
-How container should
be labeled.
-Stability of specimen
and requirements for storage and transport .
-Time within which the
specimen should reach the laboratory .
