Range, Work Load Capacity And Delivery Report of the Laboratory
Range of Tests to be performed and referral of the specimen:

which can be done in district hospital laboratory should be referred.
What are
the things to be consider-
- Priority and clinical value of test.
- Level of experience and training of laboratory staff necessary for further training .
- How well is the laboratory equipped and can be operated reliably and safely.
- Cost involvement in reagents standards controls running and maintaining
- If able to refer can specimens be preserved and transported safely.
Work Load Capacity of the Laboratory:
Work
load capacity of a laboratory must be marched to the number of staff and there
level of training and to the size of laboratory and its facilities .If the
amount of work requested is beyond the capabilities of a laboratory this must
be brought to the attention of the medical officer with over all
responsibilities for the laboratory .when work load is excessive the testing of
specimen becomes unreliable and safety measures tends to be ignored.
Delivery of Report:
1. All
result before they leave the laboratory must be checked by the most experienced member of the lab.
Technical staff.
2. Any
expected result should be investigated and repeated if necessary.
3. If is
important for lab. Workers to understand the clinical significance and accepted
reference value/normal range of the test,
4. A
clinically serious abnormal result should be brought to the attention of the
medical officer concerned as soon as possible.
5. When
a result is phoned it is advisable to request the person receiving the report
to repeat back the name of the patient and id no, test result. A written report
should be follow as soon as possible.
6. There
should be an organized system for the delivery of reports towards clinics and
from referral lab , to the peripheral hospitals and community health centers.
